2000 Year of the Dragon Kilo Silver Proof Coin with Diamond Eyes

by YOTD

For the second edition in our series of retrospective posts, we’ll be highlighting the extremely beautiful 2000 Silver Kilo Coin with Diamond eyes. Again, it’s been sourced from an old Money Catalogue from Australian numismatic dealer, Downies. We’d have to say that this release is probably one of the most extravagant from the 2000 series – lets hope we see something similar released in the current series!

2000 Year Of The Dragon Silver Kilo Diamond Eyes

Sumptuous, opulent, lavish… words that are not ordinarily associated with coins. That is until you feast your eyes on the Year of the Dragon Kilo Coin. The use of colour is dramatic. The addition of yellow diamonds as the dragon’s eyes is pure genius. They emanate fire.

The inclusion of precious gems as feature elements of a coin design was a concept that took Europe by storm last year. It has been brought to Australia in this latest issue from the Perth Mint, adding a new dimension to the world’s largest coin.

The Year of the Dragon Kilo Coin presents the design of a powerful dragon licked by flames. It is struck to Specimen quality in pure .999 fine silver and is Australian legal tender with a denomination of $30. Each of these stunning coins

  • Features sparkling yellow diamonds that have been inserted into the dragon’s eyes
  • Hosts a richly coloured purple and yellow border of five bats and clouds on the reverse, synonymous with the blessings of longevity, integrity and leading a full life
  • Incorporates the Chinese character for the dragon, the lunar year 2000, the weight and purity of .999 fine silver in the reverse design
  • Carries the mature portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse
  • Is blessed with individual edge numbering, and each of these giant coins comes housed in a red velveteen presentation case with a serial numbered Certificate of Authenticity

This is a coin to enjoy. It is prestigious. It is also very exclusive with only 500 available to the Australian collector market.
